How much do you think the Lord Jesus had to do with compiling the Ten Commandments? We know the answer: He had everything to do with that. The commandments are the pinnacle of God’s holiness standard, compiled by God, compiled by the One Who knew and met the totality of that holy standard. By the One Who displayed that holy standard to the world when He was a made flesh and dwelt among us. So when the evil hearts of men began to create a plan to kill the Lord Jesus, He not only knew of their murderous plan, but He also knew the depravity of those evil hearts.
As with our first father Adam, all of humanity is formed in the image of God. The wrongful taking of any human life is the destroying of that which is in the image of God. That is the reason why the sixth commandment reads ‘thou shalt not kill’. So the Jewish leaders who plotted to destroy the Lord Jesus were wrong in their intent. They were also wrong in their appeal to Pilate for Him to be crucified. Just as Pilate was also wrong to approve that crucifixion. As the Lord Jesus endured the false trials and the beatings, He did so with full knowledge of His own innocence and of their depravity.
During His untold agonies on the cross, the Lord Jesus was fully aware of this commandment and how guilty were those around Him of breaking this commandment. And yet, He did not interfere to prevent their evil intent. He allowed those guilty of evil intent to follow through on that intent and seal their own condemnation. But in doing so, He allowed Himself to become the bearer of that very condemnation.
Thou shalt not kill. Yet our representatives killed the very Author of that commandment. All while He bore the punishment for what we did. -Jim MacIntosh
