And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. Exodus 14:13
The salvation of the Lord as presented in this verse is referring to the permanent and eternal removal of the enemies of the children of Israel. As terrifying as the armies of the Egyptians were, the Israelites were looking on them for the last time. For the rest of their lives, they would never have to look over their shoulders to see if the Egyptians were pursuing. This deliverance was by the Lord; all the Israelites had to do was fear not, stand still, and see. God would do the rest.
As we meet today to remember the salvation of the Lord, we also fear not. Our remembrance includes our appreciation of that wonderful word our Saviour uttered as He died: Finished. There remains nothing for us to fear. The sin that earned the wages of death is paid for. The death that our sins earned for us has lost its sting.
As we meet today to remember the salvation of the Lord, we also stand still. We consider the work of Calvary and are amazed that the Lord Jesus completed it Himself. All that needed to be done to accomplish our salvation was His alone, and we can and must ever add to that work.
As we meet today to remember the salvation of the Lord, we also see. The words of the prophet come to mind: Thou shalt see of the travail of His soul and shall be satisfied – Isaiah 53:11. The scenes of the suffering of our Saviour are precious to us, and we can say like Simeon in the temple: Mine eyes have seen Thy salvation. -Jim MacIntosh
