Meditation for Monday

Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6

Maybe you have seen those bumper stickers: God isn’t finished with me yet! It is so true. We get so discouraged and frustrated sometime that within this sinful flesh we struggle to be faithful and true to our Lord. But we have to realize that the work that God is doing with us is just nicely getting started.

That is no excuse for us to live worldly or to cast aside Christ-like behaviour. We have a responsibility to live like a member of God’s royal family. God has called us to holiness, to be like Himself. But he has also left us here in the flesh, to live until He calls us to Himself.

As a writer, I am often called upon to pass judgment on something that has been written, to confirm somebody’s opinion that this piece of work is ‘perfect’. I always say that in writing, there is no such thing as perfection, there are only degrees of excellence. It is the same with us as Christians. None of us is perfect. The most godly saint you know will display some less than saintly characteristics if you are around them long enough. But, there are many degrees of excellence among the Lord’s people. The most excellent have ceased resisting the hand of God upon their lives, and have allowed Him to mold them into His image.

You are a work in progress. That should be encouraging. If you allow God to continue His work in you, you will become what He wants you to be. -Jim MacIntosh
