Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his hand. Exodus 6:11
There is an old saying that fools rush in where angels fear to tread. It is certainly true that a prudent person will assess every situation carefully before becoming involved in it. And the assessment will be all the more diligent if the situation smacks of danger. Like the situation that God was sending Moses into in our text. He was to demand an already irritated king to allow his nation’s slaves to all walk away. God knew that Pharaoh would not willingly agree to the demand, and He told Moses as much. And yet, the order was there: Go. Speak.
God has a commission for us too, directly from the lips of our Lord: ‘And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature’ Mark 16:15. The message of the Gospel is for the whole world, although we know that most of those who hear will never heed. But it is the Good News and God desires that we are the ones to tell it. The Gospel is both a privilege and a responsibility, and we are to take them both seriously. Because it is our Lord’s command.
We have some good Gospel preachers among us these days, for which we should be thankful. And it’s an encouragement to us when young men among us show promise of being good Gospel preachers. But not everybody preaches, at least not from the pulpit. But we can all support those who do, whether by encouragement or support or monetarily. And there is one huge effort we can all make that is far more important than most of us realize: prayer. And just as important as prayer is having a good testimony before the world.
The Gospel commission is for us to go and speak. And it’s for every one of us, our Lord’s command. – Jim MacIntosh
