And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and His servant Moses. Exodus 14:31
In a 1983 album called ‘A Little Good News’, Anne Murray sang the following as the last line in the title song chorus: ‘We sure could use a little good news today’. Well, amen to that one, Anne! If most of the news was bad in 1983, there hasn’t been much for good news lately either, so much going wrong with this tired old world. Wars and battles, earthquakes and bombings, prices and taxes soaring far beyond our means – it all never seems to end. So some good news would make so much difference.
It made a difference for the children of Israel, when they saw their enemies dead on the seashore. Egypt was permanently erased as an enemy forever. It produced three results that good news will produce in us too. First, they feared the Lord, acknowledging His power and total control, just as we should do. Second, they believed the Lord, recognizing the truth of His Word and of His great promises, just as we should do. And third, they believed His servant Moses, trusting Him for guidance and counselling on their journey, just as we should do with those who the Lord provides as our spiritual leaders.
So where is our good news? What great work of God can we look upon to restore our faith and confidence? Oh, if only God would save three thousand souls today, like He did at Pentecost! But He does, just not in one place like Pentecost. Far more than three thousand people trusted Christ as Saviour today throughout this world. God is performing many miracles of many kinds today, miracles of salvation, preservation, restoration, just to name a few.
The God Who is filling your world with His many miracles of power and grace is worthy to be worshipped and trusted today.
