And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them. Exodus 1:7
Probably the biggest mistake the Nobel Prize committee made was awarding the 2009 peace prize to then US President Barack Obama. The man could talk a good story, but never came close to actually achieving any real peace goals. Other than that, the Nobel committee has an impressive record for identifying the brilliance of men and women in the various fields where prizes are awarded. An incredible fact emerging from the committee’s work is that since the prizes were first handed out in 1901, 22 percent of the recipients have been Jewish. That is all the more amazing when we consider that only one fifth of one percent of the world’s population are Jews. Today’s text is proof of God’s blessing on His people.
One of the world’s greatest miracles is the survival of the Jews as a people and the restoration of the nation of Israel. The tragedies and disasters they have encountered over the past two thousand years would have wiped out any other people. But God has preserved their identity by giving them capabilities to survive, because He has a great role for them in His future program. Despite being on the back burner of God’s blessing after their national rejection of their Messiah, they are still His people and He preserves them. They are a reminder to us that the believing Gentiles are also His people, and He preserves and blesses us too.
The attacks of the devil are growing more fierce these days, but God’s promises remain true; He will never leave us nor forsake us. Like the Jewish people down through the centuries, we may encounter troubles and persecutions of all kinds. Many Christians have entered martyrdom, and more are dying for Christ today, far more than we realize. But we are the apple of our Father’s eye and He will sustain us.
The imminent Rapture and the coming Marriage Supper of the Lamb will reveal how God has blessed and prospered His people. Glorious hope of the redeemed! – Jim MacIntosh
