And I will stretch out My hand, and smite Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go. Exodus 3:20
Do you know what is the next great event in God’s great calendar? That’s correct, the Rapture. How do you know that? There are two reasons why you know that: firstly, the Bible teaches that, and secondly, you have been taught by those who rightly divide the Word of Truth. That’s important, because false teachers are convincing more Christians today that there will be no Rapture, or that it will occur in the middle of or the end of the great tribulation. Such teachings are false but are becoming more common.
Today’s text helps to refute another false doctrine of the Reformed and Calvinism camps, that of God choosing all who will be saved and determining who will be lost. Our text describes God’s description to Moses of the events that will occur when the Israelites try to leave Egypt, including the many plagues that God will inflict on the Egyptians. In the previous verse, God tells Moses that He knows Pharaoh will oppose the Israelites’ departure. It is important to note that God does NOT say He will make Pharaoh oppose the departure. In the same way, there is no Scripture to support the Calvinist doctrine of pre-selection to salvation and damnation, although they misinterpret several verses to try to support that doctrine. Because God knows all, He knows who will be saved or lost. But the decision is ours, otherwise God would be a cruel monster and not the God of grace.
We are living in dangerous times. Enemies of the truth are becoming more powerful and more devious because the devil knows his time is short. As Christians, we need to know our Bibles to avoid being led astray by false teachers. And we need to make sure that the ministry we hear and heed is from those who are faithful teachers of the Word. – Jim MacIntosh
