But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. 2 Thessalonians 3:13
A man I worked with years ago sarcastically asked me if ever got tired of being a Christian. So I in turn asked him if he ever got tired of being a lost sinner. Sarcasm aside, those are both valid questions, his question especially in light of today’s text. Think about it.
Does it ever become burdensome to us to strive to be Christ-like every day? Do we ever weary of praying for and witnessing to the unsaved around us? Does attending the Assembly meetings and serving our fellow Christians ever get tiresome? Our text tells us to not be weary in these things. But how do we do that?
Think of our great Example, the Lord Jesus, and His motivation and reward: Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God – Hebrews 12:2. Facing an ordeal far worse than you and I ever could or will endure, our Lord was motivated by the joy that was set before Him in enabling the salvation of sinners like us.
We will not know until we reach Heaven the results of our ‘well doing’, the impact of the cups of cold water that we served, the results of our faithful testimony before sinners and other Christians, the benefits of our faithful service to our Lord and to His people. But God knows. And His rich reward will repay us far beyond what we can imagine now. -Jim MacIntosh
