Meditation for Monday

And Jesus turned and saw them following, and saith unto them, ‘What seek ye?’ They said unto Him, ‘Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Master), where dwellest Thou?’ John 1:38

The world is full of strange ideas of where Jesus dwells. Huge temples, ornate cathedrals, lovely chapels have been built and inscribed ‘To the Glory of God’, without a shred of scripture to support the claim of the builders or owners that these places are a dwelling house for the Lord Jesus. So where does He dwell? Does He have a dwelling place on earth today?

How did these two of John’s disciples know that they were at the place where the Lord dwelt? Simple, He took them there Himself. How do we know that the Assembly where we gather is the place where the Lord dwells? Because He Himself has brought us there! <BR> We know Matthew 18:20 off by heart, telling us that where two or three have been gathered in His name, there He is. He told us, come and see. Some of us have been looking it over for awhile, and the Assembly still looks pretty good. Not because of the brothers and sisters in the Lord who are there, but because our Saviour is there.

We are not told that these disciples took any particular notice of the house to which Jesus led them. They did not check out who else might be living there, or investigate the furniture, or even the larder. The only reason they were at all interested in the place was Jesus’ presence. He was there, and that was all that mattered. No, wait, there was one concern on Andrew’s part… he was anxious that others might find the Lord’s dwelling as well. He rushed out and found his brother and made this great proclamation, ‘We have found the Messias’

And so it is with us. If we have truly appreciated the place where Jesus has brought us, we will want others to come and appreciate it, too. Do you appreciate the Lord’s dwelling? -Jim MacIntosh
