Meditation for Monday
He restoreth my soul, He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Psalm 23:3
Round and round the girl’s hand swirled as she worked on the old table, a bunch of steel wool slowly flaking away the old varnish and removing the nicks and blemishes that marked the table surface. When she was finally done, she rubbed her sore arm and smiled in satisfaction as she viewed the restored surface. The table had become old-looking and ugly, but she had restored it to make it attractive and useful once again. That is also why God restores our souls.
This old world leaves its nicks and bruises on us. It attacks us and desires to make us useless for God. The devil throws his darts at us, seeking to blemish and mar our testimony for God. Even the service we might do for God can leave us weary and worn. But God restores our souls.
An old table can be restored only so many times. But God provides restoration for us every day! What does God use to restore our souls? He uses His Word. The Bible transforms us into the image of God’s Son. The Bible nourishes our souls and gives us strength and hope. The Bible meets all of our spiritual needs.
We can receive a wonderful restoration by being among the Lord’s people. Attending a conference where we enjoy the Word ably ministered and appreciate the fellowship of the Lord’s people is good for us. So too is regular attendance at the meetings of the Assembly, spending time in the presence of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Another way to have our soul’s restored is to become actively involved in Gospel work, whether helping with children’s meetings, participation in a Seed Sowers distribution, or taking part in an outreach program.
God restores us to make us useful and attractive to Himself. And he keeps restoring us every day. -Jim MacIntosh
