Meditation for Monday
Blessed is he that readeth and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein, for the time is at hand. Revelation 1:3
Heard any good sermons on prophecy lately? No? Neither have I. Once in awhile somebody in a Gospel meeting refers to the Rapture, and, if the chart of the Two roads and Two Destinies is handy, they will point out the Great White Throne. Other than that, we hear very little these days about prophecy.
The devil doesn’t like prophecy, because he knows that his future is pretty bleak. He also doesn’t like Christians to be taken up with prophecy, because we can get thrilled when we realize that the trials and tears of ‘this little while’ are just a brief prelude to a glorious ‘forever with the Lord’.
Is it important for us to know about prophecy? It must be, the Bible has a very high prophetic content. And all the prophecy in the Bible is true, unlike the soothsayers and astrologers and zodiac garbage that people get caught up on these days.
Do you read horoscopes? Don’t!!! They are satanic in origin and useless in content; they are not prophecy, they are evil, and they are certainly not harmless. Spend the time reading a few verses of Scripture instead, and get something worthwhile for your soul.
We need good Bible scholars to unfold the prophetic picture on a regular basis. Many of our young people do not have a good grasp of what lies before us, other than some very sketchy truths that they can glean from the Gospel charts. They need some grounding in this very important area.
In today’s text, John urges people to read his prophecy, because the time is at hand. When did you last read the book of the Revelation? Is your grasp of prophecy any stronger than a casual ‘well, that’s what they believe at the Gospel Hall, so I guess it’s right’?
