And He gave unto Moses, when He had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God. Exodus 31:18
Among my keepsakes is a little book that contains excerpts from speeches by former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. It is just a small paperback, not very impressive in its appearance, but there is something about that book that makes it very special to me. Inside the front cover, in his own handwriting, is a personal message from Diefenbaker to me. The book is entitled ‘Those Things We Treasure’, and it is one of those things that I treasure. Because it contains something written to me by my former prime minister. Did Moses feel the same way as he looked at those tables of stone written upon by his God?
As Moses looked at those tables of stone, he must have been thrilled. He would appreciate not only what was written upon them, but also that it was God Himself who wrote upon them and gave them to him. What an amazing gift! And yet, you and I can appreciate receiving an even greater gift from God. We read in John 3:16 of that gift. It tells us that God did not give us laws and commandments, but He gave us His only begotten Son. It tells us that belief in the Son that He gave grants to us everlasting life. The Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord -Romans 6:23.
Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable Gift. -Jim MacIntosh
