Millions of Egyptians would have died of starvation if it were not for Joseph. His wisdom in leading that nation through seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine saved untold numbers of lives and averted catastrophe. That and other wise decisions by Joseph endeared him to Egyptian rulers for many years. And Joseph’s people were treated well as a result. But that came crashing down when a new ruler arose who had no regard for all that Joseph had done. We are seeing a similar picture emerge today that directly affects us.
Christian values and the examples of outstanding Christian leaders have shaped much of our western society in the past couple of centuries. Biblical principles of honesty, generosity, and diligence mingled with a high degree of respect for God and His Word have played a major role in creating the freedom and prosperity that are the hallmarks of the world that we have been living in. But that has been changing, and fast! Many, possibly most, of those in positions of authority have no knowledge of the importance of including Biblical principles in their decision making. The Bible and its Gospel message are virtually unknown by most all around us. And we face the same perils that the children of Israel did.
We know what happened to the children of Israel when a king arose who knew not Joseph; they were slammed into slavery and repression. Today’s atheistic and agnostic leaders are trying to do the same with the Christians around them. They brand us as hateful for rejecting such wrongs as sinful lifestyles and the murder of the unborn. They falsely accuse us of brainwashing our children and repressing our women. And they are crafting laws to make us illegal, just as the Carney government has done with the Bible (Bill C-9).
Those who stand for Christ and His Word will be marked out for persecution in a way that we have never seen before. Our freedoms as Christians are about to disappear; are we ready? -Jim MacIntosh
