The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him, to shew unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass; and He sent and signified it by His angel unto His servant John, Revelation 1:1
Let’s suppose you are reading a mystery novel, and about halfway through, someone who has already read the book comes along and tells you exactly how that book ends. Such a spoiler destroys the very purpose of reading the book and you would be right to be upset. But history is not a mystery novel, and with all of the uncertainty and impending disasters all around us today, it would be nice to know that the book ends well. It does not end well for the unsaved; in fact it ends in absolute tragedy. But for those of us who are saved, we have the comfort of knowing the end is glorious beyond our understanding.
Have you ever considered whether John could possibly be wrong about his prophecy? Well, you can forget about that! No other prophecies in our Bibles have failed to be accurate, of the ones that relate to events leading up to our present time. In fact, the things that John foretold about the past two millennia have proven absolutely accurate. Chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation describe the various stages that Christianity has passed through until now. And the description of the final stage, that of Laodicea, sounds exactly like what we see around us today. What now?
Although we can’t tell how long our Laodicean age will last, we can be certain of everything that follows it. We await the imminent rapture of the church that will transport us from earth to Glory and usher in a time of terrible trouble and judgment for those left behind. Take comfort in the certainty of our glorious future. And pray that others may enter into this comfort too. – Jim MacIntosh
