Lesson for the Lord’s Day
Wherefore holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus. Hebrews 3:1
The purpose of our gathering today is to ‘consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession’. But did you notice what He calls us? Holy brethren!
Do we feel holy as we sit down together in His presence? We are so aware of our shortcomings and our failures. We are so easily reminded of what we were in our unsaved days, our rebellion and wanderings, our blasphemies and hatred. Even now, we know we are so easily turned aside and discouraged, so readily attracted to the world and its false ways. Yet, He calls us holy brethren. It is enough to break our hearts, as we consider how far above us He is. We are touched to realize that it is the Son of God who addresses us as holy brethren. He is not ashamed to call us brethren (Hebrews 2:11).
It is wonderful to realize that He sees us, not in our weaknesses, but in the perfect position that He has brought us. Our position is exalted, eternal, and glorious. How wonderful that He draws near and accepts us for what He has brought us into.
Adore Him today for the wonders of His matchless person. -Jim MacIntosh
