There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings. John 10:19
I found a Web site the other day in which the people who ran it were comparing all the different ‘churches’ and their doctrines, assessing those religious organizations against the backdrop of their own beliefs. I searched, and found there were a few holes in their own theology, things that they thought were correct but which are not according to Scripture. What these people should have been doing was checking themselves against the Scriptures instead of checking themselves against everybody else. And so should we all.
Sure, it’s good to know where other people stand. But we need to be absolutely clear in our own position, that we line up perfectly with the Word of God. In today’s text, the Jews found themselves of different opinions concerning the Lord Jesus. And all around us today are different opinions on just about everything, including the Bible, God, the Lord Jesus, religion, you name it. The world, especially the religious world, is big on opinions. Everybody has their own idea and pet philosophy. But the Bible declares that it is not of any private interpretation – 2 Peter 1:20. We can’t go by our opinion. All that matters is what the Bible says. And the Bible is clear. We need to adopt the policy of the Bereans in Act 17:11, who searched the Scriptures daily whether those things were so.
Do You agree with everybody else on the person of Jesus Christ? Or do you have your own ideas about him? In both cases, you are wrong. Go to the Bible, read and believe what His Word says about Himself. And it won’t matter if anybody else agrees with you. -Jim MacIntosh
