Oh Lord I have heard Thy speech, and was afraid; O Lord, revive Thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known, in wrath remember mercy. Habakkuk 3:2
Today’s text contains a prayer that we are all crying these days: O Lord, revive Thy work. There is a sense among us that this is indeed a day of small things, a time of little blessing, a period of declension and departure among the Lord’s people. We live in a day when young people are not grasping the truths of the Assembly, a day when holiness and separation are optional among the saints. We see ever smaller numbers attend the mid-week prayer meetings and Bible readings. We see fewer numbers of both saint and sinner attending our Gospel meetings.
Are things falling apart around us? Yes, they are. And we have nobody to blame but ourselves. The world has so ensnared us and saturated our lives that there is little significance to our testimony. We blame the world’s apathy for the difficult time we have to get people out to meetings, to get people to even accept a tract or a Seed Sower packet or Via magazine. And it is true the world is drifting rapidly away from any interest in the things of God.
Is it any wonder that the Lord’s people are longing for revival? We long for fervor in our worship and ministry meetings. We long for good numbers and good interest in the Gospel meetings. We long for power in the prayer meeting and discernment in the Bible readings.
God has in the hearts of His people a desire for blessing. Among us are many godly men and women who are praying for revival. The cry of their hearts is for evidence of God moving and working. God appreciates and hears those prayers.
Are you praying today for God to revive His work? Are we all praying for this? If not, how can we expect revival? -Jim MacIntosh
