Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Hebrews 11:3
The big bang theory, which is constantly being changed, is an idea that the universe began sometime between ten and 20 billion years ago with an explosion of a tiny but dense mass of matter and is still expanding from the force of that explosion. Evolutionary scientists are revising that theory all the time, because of its obvious flaws. They can never explain, for example, where that dense bit of matter came from. Nor can they tell what caused it to explode, how the explosion resulted in such massive quantities of new matter, or how the order that we see today resulted from the total chaos of an explosion. The big bang theory and its latest derivitives are ridiculous, and those who accept and endorse it are pure fools. However, in one way, that theory agrees with the second part of our text, that things which are seen came from things that do not appear. It’s the first part of our verse that the evolutionists reject, but where the true key to the origin of our universe is found. Evolutionists say everything came from where nothing existed, but it happened by random chance, with no reason, plan, or planner. Our text says everything came from where nothing existed, but it happened for a reason, with a plan, and by a master Planner.
The first two chapters of Genesis describe how the world were framed by the Word of God. It is all very clearly presented, and not one word of what appears in those two chapters has ever been refuted by any credible scientist. Scientists may disagree with it, but they cannot prove any of it is false, and they never will. We who believe the Bible should never apologize for accepting the Genesis account. But we should recognize that it is only by faith that we accept what God tells us about our origins. If it were not for faith, we might well be agreeing with the poor fools who believe that an ordered universe came from nothing for no reason.
Think of the expression ‘the worlds were framed by the Word of God’. Those nine monosyllabic words are magnificent in their simplicity and grandeur. They explain everything about where we came from and why. They let us know that instead of occurring by chance (and an impossible chance at that), we are the product of a God Who included us in His great eternal purposes. They let us know that the mess that sinful mankind has made of this world was never God’s intention, and will be remedied in the ages to come. They remind us that our ideas are meaningless unless they come from and agree with what God has revealed in His Word.
Believe what the Bible tells us about creation, because it is the truth. We accept that by faith. Just as we accept everything else that the Word of God tells us. -Jim MacIntosh
