I saw in the night visions, and behold one like the Son of man came with the clouds of Heaven and came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him, and there was given Him dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages should serve Him; His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. Daniel 7:13,14
Daniel has some interesting dreams and has been seeing some amazing revelations of the earth’s history. Among the glimpses that he receives of the great powers that will rise and fall in the centuries to come, he receives a glimpse of the one great kingdom that will not and cannot be destroyed. Oh for such a kingdom to come!
The great powers that Daniel saw in his visions have come and gone. As great as they were, they could not last. Because men are sinful, even the most powerful of their systems must eventually crumble. Even the most powerful nation in our world today, the United States, is crumbling under the weight of its own degeneration. The rising might of China will follow the same pattern. We can see in all of the powers of men the failures of men. The antichrist will come shortly and establish a greater power than any of the kingdoms of the world to this time, but even his might will be temporary, and his reign will be brief. But the reign of Christ will be not only the greatest and most influential that this world has ever known, but it will also be permanent. As far as this world is concerned, the kingdom of Christ in the Millennium will be perfect. The laws will be perfect and right and fair. All executive decisions will be correct and every government action taken will be successful. No other kingdom came close to that! It will also be enduring. A thousand years of peace and prosperity is unprecedented in earth’s history. And the Millennium will be but a foretaste of the great dominion of Christ for all eternity.
What is a dominion? Canada is one example of a dominion: a nation of peace, prosperity, and relative harmony that stretches from sea to sea to sea. But for all the greatness of our dominion, we can easily see the warts. Our dominion will not endure – and is in fact already in the process of crumbling – because of moral decay and man’s foolishness. But the dominion of Christ will endure and will include the entire planet, not just the most of North America.
You are already part of that great dominion. Live like a citizen of Christ’s kingdom today. -Jim MacIntosh
