And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. Exodus 3:2
If you ever see a bush in a desert burning, don’t blink, because you will miss the most of it. It would be a flash fire, over in a few seconds, because the bush would be so dry. Small wonder that Moses turned aside to see a bush burning but not burning up. It was an effective way for God to get his attention for a very important discussion. God has ways to grab our attention too, when He needs to give us a message.
Moses was about to get his orders for leading the greatest exodus in the history of mankind. God needed his attention, and the burning bush worked. What does God use to get your attention? He has changes that you need to make in your life. He has a purpose that He needs you to pursue for Him. He needs you to take these things seriously.
Sometimes, God uses dramatic events to grab our attention, an accident perhaps, or the death of a loved one. Remember how God stopped Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus, and Saul responded with his famous question of submission: ‘Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?’ Saul’s question should always be on our minds whenever dramatic events happen to us or around us.
The best way for God to grab our attention is by allowing Him to speak to us in our regular reading of the Scriptures. As we keep ourselves open to His leading in our lives, God’s Word will make our path forward plain. Hence the importance of our reading. God also reaches us through a ministry message, whether at a conference or in a regular Assembly meeting. Again, our openness to His leading is critical.
What burning bush will get your attention today? God has a message for you. -Jim MacIntosh
