And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required. Luke 23:24
Supreme courts in both Canada and the United States have in recent years both declared that same-sex marriages are as legal and binding as true marriages between a man and a woman. These decisions go far beyond merely giving homosexual couples legal standing. They also force everyone to condone and enforce such ‘marriages’. In this, the legal decisions hand tremendous power to the homosexual movement in their drive to destroy the Word of God, to discredit Christians, and to demolish all who would stand in opposition to them. The courts have chosen to deprive Christians of their rights to conduct ourselves according to the Word of God in order to give the homosexuals what they want. It all is just like what Pilate did when he agreed to have Jesus crucified because of the demands of the Jewish leaders.
Pilate had no justification for the official decision to send Jesus to Golgotha. He had already declared Him innocent, twice. The only right thing was to set Him at liberty. But the Jewish leaders poured on the pressure, and finally Pilate caved in. He capitulated because of political pressure and personal considerations. Who knows what motivated the supreme courts to issue their grossly unfair and unjustified rulings in favour of perversion and against morality and godliness. But just as Pilate must bear the awful consequences of his evil decision, so must the judges bear the consequences of theirs. And yet, Pilate’s deeply flawed decision as seen from our perspective was all part of the foreknowledge of God and occurred in accordance with His plan and purpose. In the same way, the deeply flawed decisions of North America’s supreme courts did not come as any surprise to God. And His purposes will be worked out despite – and maybe even because of – those decisions.
Pilate was a wicked man. In presenting Pilate with his great decision concerning Christ, God gave him not only an avenue of escape, but also a confirmation of the evil in his heart. The supreme court judges could also have done the right thing. But these ungodly men opted to side with evil, confirming their own condemnation before God. The consequences for them are great. But the consequences for us are also likely to be great, far greater than many of us realize. No issue in modern time has the same power as this one to turn society totally against Christianity and God. These court decisions enable our enemies to criminalize the Word of God and all who believe and obey it. Some Christians are already paying the price in jail time, loss of their businesses, destruction of their characters, and public disgrace and rejection. And the enemies are just getting started. We will soon be deprived of many of our liberties, very likely even the liberty to preach the Gospel and to witness for Christ.
God is not surprised by what we see happening today. Is it part of His plan for us, that we should enter into a period of persecution for our faith? I believe so. – Jim MacIntosh
