Word for Wednesday

Behold, I have set the land before you, go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them. Deuteronomy 1:8

No matter how old you are, your greatest challenges in life lie ahead of you. That’s because tomorrow is the great unknown, the unexplored country, all of life’s unveiled mysteries. You know what you have experienced so far in life, but you don’t know what you have yet to encounter. You are like the Israelites, as they gazed across the Jordan into Canaan, wondering what was in store for them. On the verge of their greatest challenges, God reminds the Israelites of His promises to their forefathers. They had been delivered from Egypt, they had crossed the Red Sea, they had been fed with manna and watered from rocks in the wilderness, they had experienced the miraculous durability of their clothing and shoes throughout their wanderings. God had proved Himself capable of sustaining and guiding them, and now He seeks to lead them into their place of blessing as He promises to help them win their war of acquisition.

God has done the same for us. No, not so much in a physical sense as He did with the Children of Israel. But He has delivered us from perdition and led us through the world. He has provided us with His Word to feed and water our souls and sustain us in a world that would starve and wither us. He has supplied all our spiritual needs, and our physical needs too. And now He reminds us that our greatest battles and our greatest heights of blessing are just before us. If we will accept the challenge.

Dear Child of God, is the wandering in the wilderness good enough for you? Is the manna of spiritual mediocrity enough to sustain you though the days that lie ahead. Or do you long for the old corn of the land, the taste of the fruit of the land of victorious Christian living? Just as He did for the Israelites, God has given you promises as well as a commission. He told the disciples to go into all the world and preach the Gospel, teaching and baptizing.

Lift the Sword of the Word of God today. God is ready to give you the victory. -Jim MacIntosh
