Meditation for Monday

A land which the Lord thy God careth for, the eyes of the Lord thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year. Deuteronomy 11:12

What a special land! God Himself was taking special notice of it! He noticed all that went on there, He was constantly watching it, constantly aware of how the people were doing, how the crops were faring, everything about this land had Heaven’s attention. In all the great universe, the expanse of all that He had created, God’s attention was focused on one little piece of real estate. Does God’s attention focus on any such place on earth today? Yes it does.

Firstly, make no mistake about Israel, God is still taking notice of that land. But He has set that nation aside from his program for awhile, as He brings in the Gentiles, as He saves the stranger from the covenants of promise and the commonwealth of Israel. But while Israel is on the sideboard for a bit, God still has a special spot, a tiny bit of property that He notices all the time, upon which His eye never fails to focus. It is His little assembly where you and I find ourselves a part.

What a special place we find ourselves in! The world takes little notice. We are simply little companies, many of which are dwindling in size and shrinking in impact. Nothing about us captures man’s attention, and in most ways that is probably a good thing. But God’s eyes are upon us all the time, His heart is delighted to see one little spot on this sin-drenched planet where the Name of His Son is revered and honoured and welcomed, where true worshippers worship Him in spirit and in truth. He finds, despite our weakness and too-frequent coldness, a valiant effort to cling to the plain patterns of the Word of God concerning His Assembly. And the prophet Malachi would tell us that He is writing a book of remembrance for those of us who fear the Lord and that think upon His name.

Get a grip today of the value that God places on His Assembly, and you will find your value of it will rise, too. What a special place! -Jim MacIntosh
