Sermonette for Saturday
And they went their way and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met, and they loose him. Mark 11:4
The disciples must have been used to the Lord’s ability to know things, but they were undoubtedly surprised when they saw the colt exactly as Jesus had described. Imagine how much more surprised they were when the owners of the colt let the animal go with them. Their only response when challenged was exactly what Jesus had told them to say, that the Lord had need of him.
We were just like that colt, unclean and unbroken, useless to anyone, until the Lord called us. Just as it was miraculous that the colt quietly let the Lord ride him into Jerusalem, so too it was miraculous that the Lord was able to make any use of us.
Did that little beast know that his Creator was his Rider? Probably not, but he did know that he was not to buck and run. He received the greatest honour that any mere animal can receive. We are more than mere animals, we are creatures made in God’s image, and yet we did not know, until we were called, that we were to obey Him. See ourselves in that little colt, and appreciate today the great honour that God has given us: to bear His Name, to be indwelt by the Holy Spirit, to be His servants, to be useful to Him.
In light of such an honour, let us be obedient and appreciate His presence and His acceptance of our service today. – Jim MacIntosh
