According to the glorious Gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust. 1 Timothy 1:11
The apostle looks back to the Damascus road where he uttered his life-changing question, ‘Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?’ He received his marching orders, and as he writes to Timothy, he can look back over a life of fulfilment and victory in his Saviour. God had committed the Gospel into his trust. What a wonderful privilege and responsibility!
When we think about the Gospel, we are amazed that it ever reached us. And we are amazed that God ever trusted such a message to us. With all of our weaknesses and failures, God still desires that we share the Gospel with the world. He does not rely on angels, and certainly not only on preachers, He relies on us.
Our lives are a Gospel message as our neighbours, friends, relatives, and workmates read us each day. Our Assembly’s Gospel efforts are there for us to support, including the Sunday School, Gospel meetings, children’s meetings, and others. Tract distribution and support for the preachers are other essentials in our Gospel portfolios.
Can you think of anything greater or more valuable that God could have entrusted us with? We’re talking here about offering sinners the only opportunity to escape from the judgement for their sins, the only hope of escaping the flames of perdition. This is not an offer that avails for a lifetime, but a Blood-backed guarantee for eternity. We have this precious treasure to share and to enjoy.
Do you treasure the Gospel? Do I? It is the only treasure that exists that becomes greater the more we give it away. Show God you appreciate His trust in you. Put the GO in the GOspel. -Jim MacIntosh
