Meditation for Monday

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. Romans 1:22

Has there ever been an age when people were so willing to believe and adopt ridiculous ideas? Consider the current nonsense that there are more than two genders. How many are there? According to some people, there are now three: male, female, and trans. But many don’t stop there, with some suggesting there are as many as 63. And one organization that shall go nameless insists there are 112 genders. If someone had even hinted at such a ridiculous notion 50 years ago, they would have been laughed to scorn and probably locked up. But today, people who say things like this are regarded as brilliant. Compare that with what the Word of God declares: ‘So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them – Genesis 1:27. The Bible makes no room for any more than two genders. But the so-called smart people of today think they know more than the Bible. And they prove the truth of our text today.

The nonsense of more than two genders is certainly not the only ridiculous and false idea that has been embraced by those who profess to be wise. Consider the untold trillions of dollars that are being poured down the bottomless rathole that is the hoax of global warming, which has morphed through climate change to the current climate emergency. Not a scrap of evidence exists that human activity has any impact on climate, or that CO2 levels are related to global temperatures, yet this lunacy has been almost universally embraced by the scientific and academic world, and is promoted and spread by a gullible and mindless media world. Consider also how the theory of evolution has become so prevalent in educational and scientific circles, despite its scientific impossibility and the powerful evidence that clearly refutes it. A world that professes itself to be wise no longer sees any need for the institution of marriage or the observance of the moral truths that have preserved our society up until this time. We could keep going with this all day. We don’t know what conditions the apostle Paul had in mind when he was led by the Spirit to pen today’s text. But his words certainly apply to the 21st century in which we are living!

Because the foolishness of those who profess to be wise is so prevalent, it is easy for us as Christians to become caught up in the foolishness. We need to be on the alert for ideas and attitudes that are contrary to the Word of God, because if they are contrary to the Word of God, they are wrong, regardless of who says otherwise. But in order to avoid the foolishness, we need to know the truth; we need to know the Scriptures. We need to know what God has to say about the things that the worldly wise think is right. For example, the nonsense of global warming fades under the light of such verses as Genesis 8:22 ‘While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.’

The more of the Word of God that we hide in our hearts, the less we will sin against God by absorbing the foolishness of the world’s wisdom. -Jim MacIntosh
