Thought for Thursday

Now learn a parable of the fig tree: when his branch is yet tender and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh. So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the door. Matthew 24:32,33

As I tucked the tulip bulbs into the soft loam in our flower bed, I noted that some of the bulbs have already started to send forth a bit of a shoot. That will stop quickly as the bulb is enclosed in the cold ground. There is a harsh winter to come, with much snow and ice, before those little shoots dare push up to the surface. But in the spring, how eagerly I watch for those green tips to break the surface, usually the crocuses and daffodils first, as they respond to the sunshine and the release of the burden of snow! Those little bulbs are like the purposes of God, as history yet to be written unfolds in this world. Jesus has been telling his disciples about incredible things to happen. And He reminds them that there are to be signs that they are drawing near. We too can watch for signs today, as we wait for the promise of His coming.

The Rapture is not in view as Jesus speaks of coming events in Jerusalem. He is telling them of His dealings with the nation of Israel. The Rapture will occur at any time and there are no happenings that we know of that must take place to precede that glorious event. And yet, it seems to careful observers that much of the world is drifting in the direction that will result in situations as described in Revelation that will follow the rapture. Hints and rumours abound. We need to be aware that the Rapture may be a long time off. And yet, we also need to be aware that it may be at any moment. So it is with care that we watch the signs, taking comfort in the knowledge that God is in control.

One of the developments in the post-rapture days is a one-world government with Antichrist as its head. Did you know that a unified world government is one of the secret aims of the upcoming climate change conference in Copenhagen? Did you know that the electronic media that currently exists and the technology that is being developed is ideally suited to the post-rapture environment. The horrors of Mohammedanism, communism, and Catholicism continue their marches to domination and repression. These all give us a thrill of anticipation, even as they cause us to shudder at the horror of what is coming.

A careful watch for the signs of His coming will keep us in eager anticipation, and working diligently for our Lord as we wait. What signs of His coming have you seen today? -Jim MacIntosh
